Transcend Trails – Adaptive Chariot Team

Saturday 22 August 2026
Location: 543 Cobbler Pool Road, Morangup
Participant: Mercedes
Distance: 6 km Adaptive Wheelchair Event
Check-in: 1:00–2:00 pm
Race start: 2:30 pm

Weather: 22C and raining

Before you leave home

Please come prepared as you would for a normal BTB adaptive hike.

The course is only 6 km, but it is hilly and reasonably physical. There is approximately 230 m of elevation, with steep grassy sections, uneven ground and potentially some water crossings.

Please bring:

  • Hiking shoes with good grip

  • Comfortable hiking clothes

  • Water

  • Snacks

  • Rain jacket

  • Hat/sunscreen as appropriate

  • Spare shoes and socks

  • Plastic/wet bag for muddy or wet gear afterwards

  • Any personal medication you normally carry

  • Fully charged mobile phone

Phone reception is very limited. Telstra has the best coverage in this area.

Georgia will try to have a Telstra eSIM/phone available so that we have at least one reliable means of communication.

Please preload the directions to 543 Cobbler Pool Road, Morangup into your phone before leaving home. Do not rely on being able to load Google Maps once you arrive.

Please also look at the attached Transcend course/map PDF before Saturday so you have an idea of where we are going.

Georgia will bring

Georgia will collect and transport:

  • Adaptive chariot

  • First aid kit

  • PLB

  • Chariot equipment

  • Other usual BTB adaptive hiking/safety equipment

Georgia will travel up separately with the equipment.

Everyone else is very welcome to carpool.

Arrival – from 1:00 pm

Car park: 543 Cobbler Pool Road, Morangup

The car park is at the bottom of the event area. From there, we will make our way uphill to the check-in/event area.

Georgia will confirm where the BTB team is meeting once the event village/tent arrangements are confirmed.

Because reception is poor, don't rely on being able to call when you arrive. Please have the map and meeting information saved beforehand.

1:00–2:00 pm – Check-in & preparation

Once everyone is together:

  • Check Mercedes in and collect/confirm her race bib

  • Get Mercedes comfortably set up in the chariot

  • Final chariot and equipment check

  • Team briefing

  • Confirm emergency equipment/PLB

  • Confirm course and any changes due to weather

  • Work out our initial pushing/pulling positions

  • Make sure everyone has water and required gear

We have 5-6 volunteers, so we will rotate regularly rather than having the same people pushing for the entire course.

2:30 pm – START

Our priority is Mercedes having a safe, fun day and everyone getting around together.

This isn't about smashing out a fast 6 km.

Expect:

  • Steep grassy climbs

  • Rocky/uneven surfaces

  • Open paddocks

  • Descents requiring good control of the chariot

  • Potential mud

  • Small stream/water crossings, particularly if we get rain

We'll swap pushing/pulling positions regularly and use the whole team when we hit difficult terrain.

Communicate constantly around the chariot. If anyone needs a rest, swap out early rather than waiting until you're exhausted.

There is an aid station at approximately halfway, which gives us a good opportunity to stop, check Mercedes, rotate the team, have some water/food and make sure everyone is comfortable before continuing.

Finish

We'll finish through the main Transcend event village.

Once we're through:

  • Make sure Mercedes is comfortable

  • Everyone hydrate/refuel

  • Chariot/equipment check

  • Pack all BTB equipment

  • Change out of wet/muddy shoes and socks if necessary

  • Wet gear into your plastic bag

  • Georgia will organise the chariot and BTB equipment for transport home

Important

We are only supporting Mercedes in the adaptive chariot this year.

Ebony is not participating on her adaptive MTB this year.

The weather could make this significantly wetter and muddier than it initially sounds, so please come prepared to get dirty and potentially have wet feet.

Most importantly – thank you for volunteering. Having a good-sized crew means we can rotate people, look after Mercedes properly and make this a really enjoyable afternoon for everyone.
