What Happens in an Induction?

At Break the Boundary, our adaptive hiking program is designed to make the trails accessible, safe, and enjoyable for everyone. Each induction is about getting to know you, understanding your needs, and setting you up with the right equipment and support so you can confidently take part in future hikes.

You’ll begin by meeting friendly clinicians from Integrated Support Solutions WA, who will ask a few questions and ensure your setup is comfortable, safe, and tailored to your individual requirements.

During your induction, we will:

  • Help select the most suitable adaptive hiking equipment (e.g., trail rider, support aids).

  • Support you with safe transfers in and out of equipment.

  • Adjust seating and positioning for comfort, stability, and support.

  • Show you how the equipment works and explain how support leaders will work with you on the trail. We will also show you how to book in on our great list of trails!

Once you’re ready, we’ll head out for a short familiarisation walk near the hub. This gives you the chance to experience the equipment in action, meet your support team, and build confidence before venturing further on the trails. We’ll then return to the hub, make any final adjustments, and record your setup so it’s ready and consistent for future hikes.

Meet Your Adaptive Hiking Leaders

You’ll be supported by Australia’s first trained Adaptive Hiking Leaders — dedicated volunteers with experience and training in:

  • Wilderness First Aid

  • Disability Awareness and inclusion

  • Trail safety and risk management

  • Use of adaptive hiking equipment (e.g., TrailRiders, support aids)

  • Participant support and group coordination

Our leaders are chosen for their knowledge of the bush, their compassion, and their commitment to making trails accessible for everyone. At your induction, they’ll work alongside clinicians from Integrated Support Solutions WA to ensure your setup is safe, comfortable, and tailored to your needs.
